Certified Medical Assistant Exam - What You Need To Know...

Before a person can be classified as a certified medical assistant, they need to take an exam. The exam itself is administered by The National Board of Medical Examiners. Unfortunately the exam is only given three times a year in January, June and October.

In order to qualify for the exam, a person has to apply several months in advance and must have completed their related schooling by the time of the exam. The exam dates are actually the last Friday in the month of January, the last Saturday in June is another date when the test can be taken and the last opportunity in a calendar year falls on the fourth Friday of October.

To qualify to write the exam a person has to have some background in education related to medical assistants. If the person who is writing the certified medical assistant exam is currently enrolled in school, they will need to provide their most current transcript. They must also verify that they will be done with their required education by the date they intend to take the exam.

Some people postpone taking the exam until they have gained some work experience in the field. In this case, the medical assistant needs to provide a transcript of the final marks they attained while enrolled in a medical assistant program. There are fees to take the exam, and if a person is graduating they can expect to pay less than someone who is taking the test after a period of time has passed since their graduation.

It takes upwards of two months to hear back on whether approval is granted for the person to take the certified medical assistant exam. This is one of the reasons why the deadline to apply to write the test is several months in advance.

Regardless if a person is still in school, recently completed school or finished some time ago, extensive studying is encouraged. The test is challenging and if a person has a thorough understanding of all materials they were taught while enrolled in the training course, they should succeed at the exam.

It can take some time to hear back about the results after the test has been completed. Individuals taking the test are told that they can expect to wait three months to know how well they scored. There is little room for error with the scoring results, as all exams are graded via the use of a computer.

There are just a few reasons why someone may be refused access to the examination. This typically only occurs if the individual is suspected of cheating by having information pertaining to the exam in their possession. If school records were falsified, the person in question should also expect to be refused a chance to complete the exam.
