How To Make Online Certified Nursing Assistant Training Work For You

The cons of online CNA training

Health care service is very hands-on, especially if you are a certified nursing assistant CNA or licensed practical nurse LPN as you are mostly in direct contact with patients. Certified nursing assistant training programs usually require at least 16 hours of clinicals, preferably at an actual health care facility.

In traditional classroom schooling, you also have the added benefit of putting into practice what you learned during the instructional phase through lab classes where instructors are on hand to supervise as you perform techniques and manipulations. You don't have that advantage with online training because you are basically on your own. 

Secondly, you miss out on interaction with other students. Often, it becomes easier to learn when you have someone to learn with. While you can practice by yourself and apply the techniques learned in your modules, it can also be beneficial to have someone discuss lessons with and compare your performances to. Self-study is challenging in itself, but having someone else challenge you to do your best will do wonders in developing both your skills and confidence.

If you choose the online route, you will also have to make sure the school you enroll with will help you in the clinical training portion of the program. The best CNA schools have tie-ups or affiliations with medical facilities and can help arrange for your internship.

Otherwise, you had better make your own arrangements beforehand just so when it comes time for clinicals, you won't have a difficult time looking for and being accepted by the hospital, clinic or nursing home where you can practice your skills.   

In the end, you will have to take into consideration these points to make your training worthwhile. Or if you are fortunate enough, you can be hired by a medical facility who is willing to invest in your training either in-house or by sending you to a formal program at their expense.

But if you want to gain experience in health care at the most basic level, a certified nursing assistant training is your best bet - whether it is online or traditional.
