LPN Classes

Do you want to study new skills while holding down your job? Are you interested in LPN classes to later become part of the health care industry as a licensed practical nurse LPN?

Advantages of online learning

Thanks to technology, specifically computers and the internet, you can complete your education without the hassles of attending classes on campus. It's called online education and it includes LPN classes for those aspiring to be licensed practical nurses.

The two biggest advantages of online LPN schools and programs are cost and convenience. Without the need to physically provide a classroom, schools minimize their cost and pass them on students. Having materials available online also cuts down on expenses because they need not be reprinted all the time.

It's been said that you can reduce your education costs by as much as 40 to 60 percent by going online. The figures, of course, depend on what course you are pursuing and if they require clinicals as do LPN programs.

On the part of students, scheduling and transport considerations also factor in under the convenience aspect. You can't afford to quit your job but want to study and if you tried cramming so many activities at the same time, you'll end up accomplishing nothing. Throw in additional transportation costs and travel time, and going to school will likely end up in the backburner. Online programs and training will address these concerns.

So if you're finally decided to take the online route, here are three important tips to help you breeze through your LPN classes:

1.   Choice of school. In picking out where to get your education, there are a few considerations: accreditation, quality of mentors and their availability, and support for the clinical aspect of the program.

LPN schools and programs from FL to VA must be recognized by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission. Accreditation is a guarantee you get the minimum standard quality of training required in the profession. Financial aid applicants also depend on whether you attend an accredited school. And finally, to qualify for the LPN certification exam, NCLEX-PN, you must have completed your online LPN classes from an accredited school.

Although there may be no actual physical contact between student and tutor with online classes -- you can be in NYC and the tutor in CT -- mentors are supposed to be available for consultation. And surprisingly, many online students claim they have been more access to their instructors because they can be contacted by phone, email or even chat.

A practical nurse is a hands-on job. And becoming competent in nursing skills is the goal of LPN training. The online component of the program mostly consists of the theoreticals or what is equivalent to classroom instruction. The other part, which takes up even more time, are the hands-on training. A good LPN school should facilitate or help you make arrangements for this portion of the program, although you may have your own ideas or contacts about facilities willing to take in interns.

2.   Technical requirements. In studying online, it is mostly through the use of computers. This allows you to do your coursework at a time and place convenient for you. So it is a must that you have equipment that is compatible with what is required by the school to be able to maximize your study time. This means high-speed internet, or at least a reliable one, along with a computer or laptop that has the technical specifications required to download or upload any materials. Knowing your way around the internet is also a big advantage.

3.   Scheduling and time availability. Online LPN classes, or any online courses, require a tremendous amount of discipline because no one is there to keep tabs on you. While the beauty of this mode of learning is being able to study at your pace, it still means setting aside a schedule for yourself and keeping to it to ensure you will complete the coursework and requirements asked of the program.

Even if it means squeezing in just an hour at a time even when you are at work, you must be faithful to that schedule. When studying at home, make it clear to your family that you need quiet time for yourself to study with minimal distractions.

When it is time for clinicals, you really need to work out a schedule beforehand because this is a very important component. Not only will you be able to actually practice what you've learned in theory, it is here where you will gain the confidence to become a competent nursing practitioner. It is also important to choose a venue that is nearby to cut on transport cost and travel time.

If you've got all these requirements down pat, then you will have less of a burden as you go about completing your LPN classes. All you need to concentrate on is the actual studying to learn the basic, put into practice the skills and become a competent LPN. If your heart and mind are one in their goal, then the online LPN classes would only serve as a key to unlocking your new career and a secure LPN salary.
