Medical assistant schools in Arizona offer training that range from three months to 60 weeks. The Arizona College of Allied Health has two offerings: a diploma program that runs for three quarters or an equivalent of 30 weeks, and an associate degree program that is completed in six quarters or 60 weeks. Both include 200 hour clinical externships. Completion of either program will qualify graduates to sit for the certification exams administered by the American Medical Technologists or the American Association of Medical Assistants for credentials. The Providence Training Institute is another school with a clinical medical assisting program. This lasts three months for a total of 350 hours. A 160-hour externship must be completed along with the theoretical and laboratory sessions. There are weekday, evening and weekend schedules to accommodate as many circumstances of students. Graduates are eligible for the state certification exam which can be taken at the school. The PIMA Medical Institute has a nine-month medical assistant certification program that includes phlebotomy and EKG training. It has two campuses in Arizona -- Tucson and Mesa -- where the program is offered.
